Physiotherapy near Essendon

Sports Injury Physio and Exercise Rehab. 5 Minutes from Essendon.

Your physio here is Anna. She’s worked with Olympic athletes and elite distance runners through Athletics Northern Ireland, but she treats gym regulars and weekend warriors dealing with pain the same way. Anna got into sports physio after her own injuries as a teenager, so she knows what it’s like to be on your side of the treatment table. She’s also an Irish National Sprint Triathlon Champion who’s represented Ireland at three World Championships. She lives and breathes sport, and she gets it.

How It Works

Step 1

In-Depth Assessment

Your first session is a 45-minute appointment with your treating physiotherapist. We gather a full injury history, perform specific physical tests, and arrive at a working diagnosis. Most patients begin treatment in this same session.

Step 2

Structured Treatment Plan

You’ll understand exactly what’s going on before you leave. We outline the expected treatment duration, recommended appointment frequency, and what you should be doing at home between visits. If your goals are sport-specific, your plan reflects that.

Step 3

Whole-Team Approach

Alpha Sports Medicine operates as a single team, not a collection of solo practitioners sharing a building. Your physio can loop in our exercise physiologist for gym-based rehab, our osteopath for a second manual therapy perspective, or our dietitian for recovery nutrition. Everyone sees the same patient notes.

One Clinic. Everything You Need.

Alpha Sports Medicine brings multiple disciplines together so your recovery is coordinated from day one.

Physiotherapy

Comprehensive assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Our physios specialise in sports injury, post-surgical rehab, and return-to-activity programming.

Exercise Physiology

Supervised exercise rehabilitation for injury recovery, chronic conditions, and athletic performance. Our accredited EP works from the same clinic and coordinates directly with your physio.

Osteopathy

Manual therapy with a whole-body focus. Our osteopath brings a complementary perspective to complex pain and movement problems.

Chiropractic

Joint-focused assessment and treatment for spinal and peripheral conditions, available as part of your overall management plan.

Myotherapy

Remedial massage and soft tissue therapy for muscular pain, tightness, and movement restrictions. Particularly beneficial alongside physio for athletes with heavy training loads.

Dietetics

Evidence-based nutritional guidance for injury recovery, sport performance, body composition, and long-term health.

Common Questions

How far is the clinic from Essendon?

We’re at 246A Union Road, Ascot Vale. From Essendon, it’s roughly a 5-minute drive heading south on Mt Alexander Road, then turning onto Union Road. Street parking is available on Union Road and nearby side streets.

What makes this different from a regular physio clinic?

We’re a multidisciplinary sports medicine clinic. That means your physio has immediate access to an exercise physiologist, osteopath, chiropractor, myotherapist, and dietitian. For injuries that need more than manual therapy alone (and most do), that kind of setup produces better outcomes.

Do you treat people who aren’t athletes?

Of course. A sports medicine approach benefits everyone, not just competitive athletes. If you’ve hurt your back gardening, developed knee pain from walking, or have a workplace injury, our assessment and treatment process is the same: thorough, evidence-based, and goal-oriented.

Is a GP referral required?

No. You can book with our AHPRA-registered physiotherapists directly. A referral is only relevant if you’re accessing a Medicare-funded Enhanced Primary Care plan, and if you have one, just bring it to your appointment.

What health funds do you accept?

We accept all major Australian health funds. Rebates are processed on the spot via HICAPS at the time of your appointment. You only pay the gap amount.

Can I book online?

Yes. Our online booking system lets you choose your practitioner, appointment type, and preferred time. You can also call 0414 614 692 during business hours if you’d prefer to book over the phone.
