How It Works
Step 1
Thorough Initial Assessment
Your osteopath takes a full case history, asks about your training and daily activity, then tests your posture, movement, joint function, and muscle strength. The goal is to find out what’s driving your symptoms, not just identify where they are.
Step 2
Manual Treatment
Osteopathic treatment at our clinic includes joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, cranial osteopathy, dry needling, and exercise prescription. Your osteopath selects the approach based on your assessment findings and adjusts it session to session as you progress.
Step 3
Coordinated Team Care
Physio, chiropractic, exercise physiology, myotherapy, and dietetics are all available in the same clinic. If your osteopath thinks another discipline would support your recovery, they organise it internally. Shared clinical records mean your whole team stays on the same page.

Common Questions
Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with our AHPRA-registered osteopaths at any time. If you have a GP management plan or Team Care Arrangement, you’re welcome to bring that along.
What happens during the first osteopathy appointment?
Expect a detailed assessment. Your osteopath will ask about your pain, your activity, and your medical history. They’ll test your posture, movement, and joint function. Treatment usually starts in the first session, and you’ll leave with a clear explanation and a plan.
How is osteopathy different from physiotherapy?
Osteopathy generally takes a broader, whole-body view when assessing patients. Physiotherapy often leans more into targeted exercise rehabilitation and sport-specific programming. Both are evidence-based, AHPRA-registered disciplines. At Alpha Sports Medicine, osteopaths and physios work side by side and frequently collaborate on patient care.
Can I use my health fund for osteopathy?
Yes. Osteopathy is covered by most private health extras policies. We process your rebate on the spot via HICAPS for all major health funds, including Medibank, Bupa, HCF, and NIB. You only pay the gap.
Is osteopathy suitable for people who train at the gym?
Very much so. Many of our patients train at gyms in Ascot Vale, Moonee Ponds, and Essendon. Our osteopaths understand training loads, programming, and the types of injuries that come from squatting, deadlifting, pressing, and pulling. We also work with CrossFit athletes, martial artists, and competitive lifters.
What if my condition needs more than osteopathy?
Our clinic was built for this situation. If you need strength rehab, soft tissue work, spinal adjustments, or nutritional support alongside osteopathy, it’s all available under one roof. Your osteopath coordinates directly with the rest of your care team.
